Hola Famila!!
Happy September! What a week it's
been. Honestly it feels like a blur. I'll start with a funny story. :)
A few days ago we had dinner
scheduled with this sister who lives just out of our area, at the top of a
killer hill. It was a pretty hot day so we were super hot and sweaty by the
time we got there. We were so relieved to finally be able to sit down and eat
some food. And then, she places in front of us... hot chicken soup! I was SUPER
hungry though. It was the funniest thing because I was trying so hard to eat it
but I was dying of heat and sweating. What made it worse though was that I ate
it way too fast, and she kept refilling my bowl. Sister Bingham thought it was
so funny.
There were lots more biking
adventures. We were biking down a hill, next to a busy street, and sis Bingham
was in front of me. All of the sudden one of her shoes flies off! We stopped,
laughed about it, and continued on our way. Barely 30 seconds later suddenly
her other shoes flies off!! We were dying of laughter, just sitting there on
the sidewalk next to a main street. We've also gotten caught in the rain a few
times which was an adventure and is a little harder when you're biking in a wet
skirt.
Our 10 year old investigator, S, is
doing so well! We went over for dinner on Thursday and bonded so much with the
whole family. They just love us and are so grateful for the way we've been able
to help S open up. They just do the cutest things like take pictures of us
drawing with S or putting our names next to our favorite verses in S's
scriptures. Every time we stop by we end up staying for way too long because
they love to talk to us (mostly the mom and grandma). It's just such a miracle
because previous times with elders just never went well and they haven't even
been to church at all in a few years. But now the dad has brought S and her
little brother two Sundays in a row! Yesterday they came to all 3 hours and S
loved primary. My favorite part though was Saturday, when we went with them to
temple square (salt lake city mission perks!!). It was so fun! S was super shy
at first with the tour sisters but she ended up really loving it and wants to
go back. I love temple square so much. The best is the God's Plan for Families
exhibit, it gets me every time. I just kept thinking about my own family and
how grateful I am for the knowledge that we can be together forever! It makes
it so much more meaningful when you're on your mission and far away from them.
But to help other families get there is incredible. After TS we went to the
stake center to check out the font. I was so overwhelmed with happiness as we
watched the elders show Brother C and S how the actual baptism would happen. We
love that family!!!
We met with M, (our investigator
who's in her early 20s) and finally got her boyfriend J to join us the other
night. It was a quicker lesson but we talked about how the gospel can bless
them so much as a family, especially as they try to raise their little boy. He
has a lot of questions. The best part was at the end of the lesson when we
asked him to pray for the first time and our investigator M was helping him out
to know what to say. Made us proud.
We had a training Thursday for
second-transfer missionaries, which was pretty cool. I just love and admire our
mission president so much, he can draw so much from a single verse of
scripture.
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed with
all there is to do here. But we just have to remember that we were placed here
for a reason, and the Lord knows that we can do it. It requires a lot of trust
in Him, and a whole lot of hard work. But the small miracles are already coming
and there are many tender mercies each day.
It's all true. :)
Love,
Hermana Nelson
